The 80/20 rule series: mascara

Since learning about all the bad and harmful chemicals in my cosmetics, I have really toned down my usage of make-up and now only use concealer and mascara with the occasional eye shadow and liner. I have switch out my lipsticks, moisturizers and lotions but mascara -- my staple and a staple for a lot of other women has been hard to replace.

Each natural mascara I try doesn't stand up to my trusted and favorite brand (which will remain nameless). My favorite brand lasts all day, lengthens my lashed and brightens my eyes. The other three brands I have tried flake, don't lengthen and just weren't cutting the mustard. Rather than keep going broke buying different natural mascaras, I may just settle for my favorite and trusted brand.

Unless you have a suggestion, readers. (I am almost out of concealer and am looking for suggestions for that as well)

  1. Hey! I've been having the same dilemma recently (I'm on the same green/non-toxic mission!).

Have you tried Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara? I bought a gift set from Tarte that had a mini one in it. I had my doubts but really ended up loving it and choosing it first over my regular mascaras. I love it!

  2. I have never worn much mascara as it didn't seem to do much for me. I tried Arbonne's mascara and like it a lot. They pride themselves on all natural products.

  3. I just got a Dr. Hauschka's mascara and am more impressed than I expected to be. It is subtle--does not give me a false-lash look, but I think I prefer the subtlety. If you didn't know I naturally have thin, not-very-dark lashes, when I wear the mascara, it looks like I naturally have lovely lashes. kinda neat
